The clock is ticking down until Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.3: Reflections in Crystal finally goes live on August 11th! With only days left to prepare, let’s take a look at what’s coming our way!
To start, definitely take a look at the patch notes posted by Square Enix. There’s a lot of exciting things coming with Patch 5.3! Additionally, here’s the official 5.3 trailer!
Quests Coming in Patch 5.3
Of course, we’re going to see new content in the Main Scenario Quests (MSQ). All we know so far is that the first quest is called “In the Name of the Light,” and it starts at The Crystarium. From the patch notes, it appears that there should be twelve MSQ quests, four “Chronicles of a New Era” quests, and several new side story quests added as well as a new daily tribe.
A new dwarf tribe will be introduced in Patch 5.3 for crafters, to compliment the gatherer tribe from the previous patch. For each of the dwarf quests, the necessary materials will be provided, and recipes will be found in the Special Recipes tab of the Crafting Log.
The A Realm Reborn (ARR) quests are being reworked, and several of them have been removed. While the patch notes state this won’t affect the story, it will help alleviate the grindy feel of the ARR quests. For players currently progressing through ARR content, it will be important to check your quest journal as there may be a notification requesting players to abandon and/or re-accept certain quests.
Dungeons, Raids, and Trials
While we don’t know much about the content, we do know that a new dungeon will be released in Patch 5.3 called “The Heroes’ Gauntlet.” The patch notes also tease a new mystery trial, only suggesting that players will be facing “A fearsome new foe possessed of immeasurable might.” We will see the next installment of the Shadowbringers’ Alliance Raid, named “The Puppets’ Bunker.” More information about the Alliance Raid can be found on the official YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse site.
A new trial difficulty, “Unreal,” will be introduced in Patch 5.3 as part of the new Faux Hollows feature. Players will be able to speak to a NPC once per week after completing an unreal trial to gain access to a special mini-game and earn special rewards.
Patch 5.3 Features
And here’s something I know a lot of us are excited for. At long last, we will be able to fly in ARR zones! ARR flying will be unlocked after finishing the “The Ultimate Weapon” quest in the MSQ. For players that have already completed the quest, flying will be available as soon as logging in. Since “The Ultimate Weapon” will be the quest that unlocks flying, the “I Believe I Can Fly” quest has been removed. Sadly, this means the achievement can no longer be obtained, but the barding that was rewarded for the quest can be obtained for Achievement Certificates.
There are some new things coming for you housing folks too! New furnishings are being added, including items from the FFXIV Furnishing Design Contest. Viera and Hrothgar mannequins will also be available. Additionally, new orchestrion rolls, aquarium fish, and seeds for gardening and flowerpots will be added.
We’re also going to see new mounts, minions, and emotes in Patch 5.3.
It’s Almost Time!
Following a 24 hour pre-patch maintenance period, Patch 5.3 will be live on August 11th at 3:00 AM PDT. Have fun, and we’ll see you in Eorzea!
